50th Anniversary Celebration
The Jamaica Association of Nurse Anaesthetists (JANA) will be celebrating 50 years of service to the Jamaican populace. This Association represents Nurse Anaesthetists, who are Advanced Practice Nurses trained in the art and science of anaesthesia.
In Jamaica, anaesthesia services are provided by Nurse Anaesthetists and Anaesthesiologists. There are 50 practicing nurse anaesthetists in the Island who form the core of the anaesthesia services in government hospitals, where they provide 65% of the anaesthetics given each year. They are also on the anaesthetic staff at the University Hospital of the West Indies (UHWI).
The week of celebration will be May 25 – 31, 2008. In addition, we will be producing a 50th Anniversary Commemorative Magazine. This will promote Nurse Anaesthesia as a career choice and will provide information about our history, practice, achievements, goals and aspirations. Over the years nurse anaesthetists have provided invaluable service to the people of Jamaica and will continue to do so. Hence our theme, “Advancing the Art and Science of Anaesthesia in Jamaica and the Caribbean for over 50 Years”.
